Unbeaten rookie Bob Walk tossed a three-hitter to win his sixth consecutive game as the Phillies defeated the Astros, 4-2. The Phils took a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Pete Rose doubled and scored on a single by Bake McBride. who went to third on a single by Keith Moreland and came home as Garry Maddox grounded out.

Manny Trillo singled in the fourth, stole second, took third on a throwing error by catcher Alan Ashby and scored the deciding run on a single by Lonnie Smith. Trillo rapped an infield hit to Craig Reynolds in the sixth, advanced to third on a wild throw by the shortstop and scored on a sacrifice fly by John Vukovich. [The Sporting News]
