John Mayberry smashed two homers and Roy Howell and Ernie Whitt whacked one each to support a three-hitter by Dave Stieb, who pitched the Blue Jays to a 5-0 triumph over the Mariners. Howell's clout put the Jays ahead, 1-0, in the second inning.

Mayberry's first blast came in the third with Whitt aboard. Whitt led off the eighth with his round-tripper and two outs later Mayberry drilled his second shot. The game was played in one hour, 40 minutes. [The Sporting News]
