Tommy John picked up his 14th victory as the Yankees routed the Twins, 10-3. The Yanks got their southpaw all the runs he needed in the second inning when they batted around and scored four times as Bucky Dent and Fred Stanley delivered RBI singles and Lou Piniella hit a two-run single.

Reggie Jackson blasted a homer in the third and Ruppert Jones followed suit in the fourth. The Yankees added four runs in the sixth with Oscar Gamble capping the frame with a two-run single. [The Sporting News]
