After a three-run homer by Hector Cruz won the first game, 5-3, Bruce Berenyi gained his first major league victory when the Reds also won the second game, 8-3, to complete the sweep of a twi-night doubleheader with the Mets. A homer by Claudell Washington put the Mets ahead, 3-2, in the opener before Johnny Bench and Dan Driessen walked and Cruz came through with his circuit clout in the sixth inning.
