A triple by Mark Belanger proved the key blow that enabled the Orioles to outlast the Rangers, 8-7. The Orioles erupted for six runs in the seventh inning, two scoring on a single by Ken Singleton, to take a 6-3 lead.

Belanger batted in another run with his triple in the eighth and then, trying for an inside-the-park homer, scored what proved to be the deciding run when catcher Jim Sundberg dropped the throw to the plate.
