Allowing only four hits, Steve McCatty recorded the first shutout of his major league career, pitching the A's to a 3-0 victory over the Indians. Rick Waits, hurling for the Indians, matched McCatty in ciphers until the eighth inning when the A's scored all their runs.

With one out, walks to Jeff Cox and Dwayne Murphy around a double by Rickey Henderson loaded the bases. Jim Essian followed with a sacrifice fly, scoring Cox. The A's then worked a double steal, Henderson scoring. Tony Armas capped the inning with a single, driving in Murphy. [The Sporting News]
