Sparked by Craig Reynolds, who hit a homer, the Astros scored four runs in the seventh inning and won the first game of a twi-night doubleheader, 4-2, but the Expos came back to take a 5-2 decision in the second game behind the pitching of Bill Gullickson, who gained his first major league victory.

After Reynolds' round-tripper in the opener, the Astros proceeded to load the bases. Denny Walling then singled, driving in two runs, and Danny Heep added another tally with a single. In the nightcap, the Expos broke a 2-2 tie in the second inning with a pair of runs driven in on a double by Bobby Ramos and a single by Ron LeFlore.
