The sixth inning proved lucky for the Braves, who scored four runs in the sixth inning in the opener and six runs in the sixth inning in the nightcap to defeat the Phillies in a twi-night doubleheader, 5-2 and 7-2. In the first game, after Chris Chambliss drove in a run with a single in the sixth inning to break a 1-1 tie, Gary Matthews and Bob Horner hit successive homers.

Horner homered again for the Braves' first run in the second game. With Phillies the leading, 2-1, the Braves then exploded in the sixth, sending 11 men to bat. Bill Nahorodny accounted for two runs with a double during the outburst. [The Sporting News]
