Completing the three-game series sweep, the Cardinals downed the Dodgers, 7-3. But it was a pyrrhic victory as Redbirds shortstop Garry Templeton suffered a broken left thumb and will be out of action at least three weeks.

The Cards scored two runs in the first inning on a triple by Templeton, single by Leon Durham, an infield out and single by George Hendrick. Three more runs scored in the second on a walk to Ken Oberkfell, triple by Templeton, pass to Durham, groundout by Keith Hernandez and double by Ted Simmons.
