Dave Stapleton drove in four runs, three with a bases-loaded double that climaxed a five-run seventh inning, as the Red Sox pounded out a 12-5 victory over the Rangers. The Red Sox entered the seventh trailing, 4-3, but tied the game on a homer by Tony Perez.

An error and two walks then loaded the bases. Charlie Hough replaced John Henry Johnson on the hill for Texas and was touched for an infield hit by Larry Wolfe that produced the go-ahead run.
