Bob Knepper, who previously had a 7-1 record at Candlestick Park, was an early kayo victim as the Giants lost to the Pirates, 5-1. Dave Parker, Phil Garner and Steve Nicosia hit run-scoring singles off Knepper in the first inning and Bill Madlock added a tally with a single in the second.
