A pinch-single by John Lowenstein in the bottom of the 12th inning lifted the Orioles to a 5-4 victory over the Brewers. The score was tied, 4-4, when with one out in the 12th, Ken Singleton reached first on an error by shortstop Robin Yount and advanced to second on a single by Eddie Murray.

Lary Sorensen replaced Bob McClure on the mound for Milwaukee and Lowenstein hit a line drive that bounced in front of, then eluded, center fielder Gorman Thomas as Singleton raced home. The Birds had tied the game in the eighth on a two-run homer by Benny Ayala and sacrifice fly by Lenn Sakata after singles by Doug DeCinces and Pat Kelly. [The Sporting News]
