The Rangers and White Sox divided a twin-bill, the Sox winning the first game, 3-2, and the Texans winning the second, 4-3, in 13 innings. The opener was tied, 2-2, in the sixth inning, when Greg Pryor singled and raced home with the decisive tally on a double by Bob Molinaro.

A sacrifice fly by Jim Norris produced the game-winning run in the second game. With the game tied, 3-3, Mickey Rivers reached first in the top of the 13th on a force play, stole second, continued to third when catcher Ricky Seilheimer's throw went into center field and came home on Norris' short fly to left.
