Elias Sosa relieved Charlie Lea on the hill for Montreal and fumbled Ron Oester's bunt to load the bases. After Dave Concepcion struck out and Johnny Bench hit into a forceout at the plate, Dave Collins delivered a double that plated two runs.

Cincinnati errors contributed to the Expos' second-game victory. Montreal scored twice in the first inning on an RBI single by Ellis Valentine and a throwing error by Oester, and twice more in the second on an error by Hector Cruz and run-scoring single by Rodney Scott.
