Combining on a six-hitter, Mark Bomback and Neil Allen pitched the Mets to a 2-1 decision over the Braves. New York scored in the second inning when Dan Norman singled, stole second and came home when center fielder Dale Murphy first misjudged Doug Flynn's fly ball and then lost it completely when he slipped and fell on the wet turf.
