Larry Herndon drove in three runs with a triple and single to lead the Giants to a 4-1 victory over the Cardinals. The three-bagger by Herndon drove in the first Giants run in the fourth inning and he scored on a single by Jack Clark.

After singles by Dennis Littlejohn and Johnnie LeMaster and a walk to Bill North loaded the bases in the fifth, Herndon slashed a two-out, two-run single. Allen Ripley received credit for the victory and Greg Minton saved the game by coming in in the eighth inning with two on and none out and retiring the side without damage. [The Sporting News]
