A four-run outburst in the eighth inning lifted the Angels to a 6-5 triumph over the Tigers. Freddie Patek opened the stanza with a triple and scored on a pinch-single by Rod Carew. Bert Campaneris, running for Carew, was sacrificed to second by Rick Miller, stole third and registered on a pinch-double by Larry Harlow.
