The Expos pushed run a across in the ninth inning and shaded the Reds, 2-1. Gary Carter drew one-out walk and raced to third on a single by Larry Parrish. Dave Tomlin replaced Doug Bair on the mound for the Reds and issued an intentional walk to pinch-hitter Ken Macha.

Tony Bernazard, batting for Woodie Fryman, then drove the ball over the drawn-in infield to plate the winning tally. The Reds' run counted in the first on a double by Ray Knight and single by George Foster. The Expos produced the matching tally with singles by Jerry White and Andre Dawson around a sacrifice bunt by Rodney Scott in the sixth. [The Sporting News]
