Friday August 1, 1980
. . . where the 1970s live forever!

After a run-scoring single by Al Cowens in the ninth inning produced a 1-0 victory in the first game of a twi-night doubleheader, the Tigers completed the sweep by defeating the Mariners in the second game, 5-2. A single by Duffy Dyer and two walks preceded Cowens' hit in the opener, scoring Ricky Peters, who ran for Dyer.

In the nightcap, the Tigers tallied all their runs in the second inning. Champ Summers doubled, Cowens singled and both scored when Mariners pitcher Rob Dressler threw wildly on a grounder by Lou Whitaker. A single by Mark Wagner, triple by Peters and sacrifice fly by Alan Trammell added three runs. [The Sporting News]
