A three-run outburst in the seventh inning carried the Tigers to a 4-3 victory over the Mariners. Tom Brookens opened the stanza with a double and went to third on a sacrifice by Jim Lentine, who reached first when losing pitcher Rick Honeycutt tried unsuccessfully to catch Brookens at third.

Lou Whitaker then singled, scoring Brookens, to give the Tigers a 2-1 lead. A single by Ricky Peters drove in Lentine. Peters also came around on a single by Alan Trammell and groundout by Al Cowens. [The Sporting News]
