The Reds swept a doubleheader, 7-1 and 11-2, ending the Padres' winning streak at eight games. Tom Seaver, coming off the disabled list, gained credit for the victory in the first game, pitching six strong innings. The Reds had a two-run triple by Dan Driessen in the first inning, two-run homer by George Foster in the third and two-run round-tripper by Johnny Bench in the sixth.

In the second game, the Reds broke a 2-2 tie with an eight-run explosion in the seventh. The big blows were a two-run single by Joe Nolan and two-run double by Dave Concepcion. [The Sporting News]
