Reliever Gary Lavelle pitched four scoreless innings, his longest stint of the season, to get credit for the victory as the Giants whipped the Astros, 9-3. The Giants trailed, 3-1, going into the fifth inning but loaded the bases on three walks and scored four runs.

Singles by Max Venable and Bill North each drove in a run to tie the score before Jack Clark hit a two-run single. Mike Sadek singled home two tallies in the fifth and Mike Ivie added a two-run double in the eighth. [The Sporting News]
