Completing the three-game series sweep, the Royals shaded the Tigers, 5-4. The Royals were behind, 3-1, when Frank White began the fifth inning with a walk, advanced to second on a sacrifice and scored on a single by Jamie Quirk.

George Brett then extended his hitting streak to 19 games by lining a single off first baseman John Wockenfuss's glove and Darrell Porter tied the score with a ground single to center.
