Putting on one of their best scoring displays of the season, the Cardinals mangled the Phillies, 14-0, behind the three-hit hurling of Bob Sykes. Tommy Herr tripled to open the game and scored on a single by Leon Durham.

Before the side could be retired, the Redbirds registered four more times on a pass to Keith Hernandez, double by Ted Simmons, pass to George Hendrick, single by Ken Oberkfell and errors by Garry Maddox and Bob Boone.
