Combining on a five-hitter, Rudy May and Rich Gossage pitched the Yankees to a 2-1 victory over the Rangers. The Yankees scored once in the fifth when Willie Randolph singled, stole second and came in on a single by Bobby Murcer.

Jim Spencer drilled a homer for the winning run in the sixth. Richie Zisk cracked a homer for the Rangers in the ninth with two out to bring on Gossage, who got the final out. [The Sporting News]
