The Padres snapped a 10-game losing streak in the Astrodome, downing the Astros, 5-1, behind the four-hit pitching of Bob Shirley. The Padres were aided by seven walks issued by Astros' starter Joe Niekro. A walk to Gene Richards with the bases loaded in the fourth inning gave the Padres a 2-1 lead and they padded their margin in the sixth with a two-run double by Jerry Mumphrey. [The Sporting News]
