Blasting off for eight runs in the first inning, the Cardinals massacred the Expos, 16-0, and Bob Sykes posted his second consecutive shutout with a four-hitter. Tommy Herr began the big inning with a walk and Tony Scott followed with a hit-and-run single and then stole second.

A sacrifice fly by Keith Hernandez plated Herr and a single by Ted Simmons registered Scott. Leon Durham then made it 4-0 with a homer. The fifth run came in on a single by Sykes and, after a walk to Herr loaded the bases, Scott cleared the sacks with a triple. [The Sporting News]
