Blowing a tight game apart, the Braves exploded for six runs in the 13th inning and defeated the Giants, 8-2. The Giants scored their runs on homers by Mike Ivie and Terry Whitfield. The Braves rallied for a tying pair in the seventh.

The clubs then matched ciphers until the 13th when the Braves snapped the tie with a run on singles by Bruce Benedict, Jeff Burroughs and Jerry Royster. After a walk to Charlie Spikes, Gary Matthews drove in two runs with a single and Bob Horner followed with a three-run homer. [The Sporting News]
