With two out in 20th inning, center fielder Jerry Mumphrey failed to catch a fly ball by Terry Puhl for an error that allowed two runs to score and enabled the Astros to defeat the Padres, 3-1. Luis Pujols was safe on a throwing error by shortstop Ozzie Smith to open the stanza and when Art Howe bunted, both runners were safe on pitcher Eric Rasmussen's late throw to second. Rasmussen then retired the next two batters before falling victim to Mumphrey's misplay. [The Sporting News]
