Breaking a tie for first place in the East Division, the Pirates moved ahead of the Expos with a 7-3 victory. Mike Easler and Dale Berra homered in the second inning to start the Pirates' scoring.

Berra hit a single for another RBI when the Pirates added a pair in the fourth and two more runs scored on wild pitches by Expos reliever John D'Acquisto in the sixth. Jim Bibby, with relief assistance from Kent Tekulve, gained his 15th victory. [The Sporting News]
