Ted Simmons belted two homers and also singled twice, sparking an eight-run second inning to pace the Cardinals to a 10-1 rout of the Reds in a game called after 6½ innings because of rain. The first St. Louis run in the second inning came when Keith Smith bounced into a double play. The Cardinals then reeled off seven straight hits before Smith struck out to end the uprising. Simmons' homers came in the fourth and sixth innings.
