A sacrifice fly by Darrell Evans drove in the tie-breaking run in the seventh inning as the Giants shaded the Mets, 5-4. The Giants opened a 4-1 lead in the sixth on solo homers by Evans and Mike Ivie, but the Mets tied the game in the bottom of the frame on a pair of errors and a single by Frank Taveras.

Bill North led off the Giants' seventh with a walk and went to third on a double by Larry Herndon. After Jack Clark was walked intentionally, Evans lofted a fly ball to plate North. [The Sporting News]
