Breaking an 0-for-36 batting drought, Mike LaCoss helped himself to victory, hitting a single and driving in the tie-breaking run in the fourth inning as the Reds downed the Cardinals, 4-2. The Reds were behind, 2-1, in the fourth, when Joe Nolan tied the contest with a homer.

After a double by Dave Concepcion, LaCoss delivered his run-scoring blow. The Reds added an insurance marker in the eighth on a triple by George Foster and an error by Cardinals first baseman Keith Hernandez. [The Sporting News]
