Tom Brookens, who started a triple play in the eighth inning. went 5-for-5 with a homer, triple and three singles to pace the Tigers to an 8-6 decision over the Brewers. Brookens singled in the third inning, singled in the fourth, belted a two-run homer in the sixth, tripled in the seventh and singled in the ninth. The Tigers also had homers from John Wockenfuss, whose three-run shot gave them a 4-0 lead in the third, and Lance Parrish, who belted his 21st round-tripper leading off the seventh.

Brookens started the triple play on Sal Bando's bouncer to third in the eighth, with Sixto Lezcano on second and Charlie Moore on first. Brookens took Bando's grounder, stepped on third to force Lezcano and threw to Lou Whitaker at second to force Moore. Whitaker's relay to first was in time to get Bando. [The Sporting News]
