The Astros won their sixth straight game, defeating the Pirates, 5-1. The Astros scored four runs in the sixth inning, three on passes with the bases loaded. Danny Heep led off with a single and went to third on a double by Alan Ashby. After pinch-hitter Dave Bergman was passed intentionally to load the bases, pinch-hitter Denny Walling walked to force in a run.

Grant Jackson took over the Bucs' pitching chores from Jim Bibby and passed Joe Morgan to send in another run. A single by Enos Cabell produced the third run of the inning and the final marker resulted from a bases-loaded walk to Ashby. [The Sporting News]
