Pushing across a run in the 12th inning, the Reds shaded the Cardinals, 4-3. Cesar Geronimo led off the 12th with an infield single and went to second on a sacrifice by Ken Griffey.

Jim Otten relieved Don Hood for the Cards and hit Ray Knight with a pitch before walking George Foster to load the bases. Dan Driessen then delivered a fly ball to center field to plate Geronimo. [The Sporting News]
