The Angels snapped a six-game losing streak by erupting for seven runs in the fifth inning to defeat the Yankees, 8-4. Trailing, 2-1, the Angels started their outburst with the tying tally on one-out doubles by Larry Harlow and Dickie Thon.

A single by Tom Donohue and pass to Rick Miller loaded the bases and chased Luis Tiant. Doug Bird relieved and gave up a sacrifice fly by Bert Campaneris. Rod Carew, Don Baylor and Jason Thompson followed with singles, each driving in a run, before Bobby Grich capped the big inning with a two-run triple. [The Sporting News]
