Rallying for two runs in the seventh inning, the Yankees maintained first place in the East Division by defeating the Angels, 4-2. With the Yankees trailing, 2-1, Johnny Oates began the seventh with a double and was safe at third when the Angels threw late to the bag trying to get him on a sacrifice bunt by Aurelio Rodriguez.

After Andy Hassler replaced Fred Martinez on the mound, a single by Eric Soderholm tied the score and moved Rodriguez to third. Ruppert Jones then struck out, but Bobby Murcer flied deep to center to score Rodriguez. [The Sporting News]
