Completing the three-game series sweep, the Pirates defeated the Reds, 5-2, behind the five-hit pitching of John Candelaria. The Pirates scored three runs in the second inning on a pair of walks, a double by Steve Nicosia and error by Cincinnati third baseman Ron Oester.
