A two-run homer by Mike Schmidt and solo shot by Greg Luzinski in the fourth inning helped send the Phillies to a 7-1 victory over the Giants. Lonnie Smith doubled and scored on a single by Pete Rose before Schmidt connected for his 35th round-tripper, tops in the majors. Luzinski, playing for the first time since July 5, followed with a circuit clout to cap the outburst. [The Sporting News]
