The Padres snapped their four-game losing streak by pushing across two runs in the 18th inning to outlast the Mets, 8-6. Gene Richards began the 18th with a single, stole second, reached third on a sacrifice bunt and, after Dave Winfield was walked intentionally, scored on a single by Willie Montanez.
