Continuing his hot hitting, George Foster went 3-for-4 , including a homer, as the Reds defeated the Pirates, 5-4, to complete the sweep of the four game series. The loss was the seventh in a row for the Pirates. The Reds trailed, 4-1, going into the sixth inning when Foster sparked a rally with his round-tripper.

Dan Driessen walked and, after Johnny Bench struck out, Pirates right fielder Dave Parker dropped a line drive by Ray Knight. Paul Householder and pinch-hitter Harry Spilman followed with run-scoring singles to tie the game.
