The Padres erupted for five runs in the sixth inning and defeated the Phillies, 10-3. Center fielder Garry Maddox, who has won five consecutive Gold Glove awards for fielding excellence, let a fly ball by Craig Stimac drop for an error. Stimac was given credit for a sacrifice fly on which the Padres' go-ahead run scored, but the error paved the way for two subsequent unearned runs.
