Combining on a six-hitter, Rudy May and Rich Gossage hurled the Yankees to a 6-1 victory over the A's. The Yanks scored in the fourth inning on doubles by Reggie Jackson and Lou Piniella and added a pair in fifth on two walks and run-scoring singles by Oscar Gamble and Piniella.
