The Cubs scored an unearned run in the 10th inning to win the first game of a doubleheader, 4-3, but the Reds came back to win the second game. 6-1. Bill Buckner singled to lead off the Cubs' overtime stanza in the opener and Cliff Johnson was hit by a pitch. Carlos Lezcano then bunted to Tom Hume, who threw to third base in an attempted forceout, but Ray Knight let the ball get away from him, allowing Buckner to score.
