Gene Tenace paced the Padres' 16-hit attack that resulted in an 8-7 defeat of the Mets, knocking in four runs, three of them with a home run that capped a five-run fourth inning. Ozzie Smith and Jerry Mumphrey singled home the outburst's first two runs. The Mets, with 16 hits of their own, rallied for three runs in the seventh before Rollie Fingers came on to pitch the final 2 2/3 innings and pick up his 20th save. [The Sporting News]
