Rallying for four runs in the top of the ninth inning, the Yankees downed the Blue Jays, 7-4, enabling Tommy John to become a 20-game winner for the third time in the last four seasons. Trailing, 4-3, entering the ninth, the Yanks took the lead on a double by Bobby Murcer, triple by Oscar Gamble and pinch-single by Bob Watson, the latter safety coming off Jerry Garvin, who had relieved Jays starter Dave Stieb. After Mike Barlow replaced Garvin on the mound for the Jays, Rick Cerone rapped the reliever's first pitch for a two-run homer. [The Sporting News]
