The Angels outlasted the Royals, 4-3, as K.C. played its third straight game without George Brett, sidelined by a hand injury. The Angels scored in the first inning when Dickie Thon doubled, moved to third on a groundout and came in on an RBI groundout by Carney Lansford. Dan Ford smashed a solo homer in the third and the Angels got their final runs in the seventh on an error by K.C. right fielder Jose Cardenal and run-scoring single by Thon. [The Sporting News]
