A homer by Jose Cruz in the bottom of the 12th inning lifted the Astros to a 6-5 triumph over the Dodgers and moved Houston into a first-place tie with L.A. in the N.L. West. The score was 3-3 at the end of nine innings. The Dodgers went ahead in the top of the 11th on a two-run pinch-single by Gary Thomasson, but the Astros regained a tie in the bottom of the frame on an RBI double by Danny Heep and run-scoring infield single by Gary Woods.
