The Indians swept a doubleheader from the Tigers, winning the lidlifter, 5-4, in 13 innings through the hitting heroics of Gary Gray, and capturing the nightcap, 3-0, behind the four-hit hurling of Bob Owchinko. In the opener, Gray blasted a two-run pinch-homer in the bottom of the ninth to tie the game and then singled home the winning run in the 13th.

Owchinko's shutout was his first in the A.L. The Indians scored all their runs in the first inning of the second game on a pass to Miguel Dilone, a stolen base, single by Alan Bannister and doubles by Mike Hargrove and Rick Manning. [The Sporting News]
